In 1949, Robert and Katherine Jahn founded the business
Woodlake Cleaners at 6521 Lyndale in Richfield after running
Jahn Cleaners in St. Paul. The business's most trusted
employee, Helen Johnson, came to work in 1962 and is still
employed. The name of the business was changed to Woodlake
Cleaning Center in the mid 1960s when the coin-op portion
was initiated. Due to a forced relocation in 1978, the
business moved down the street to 6440 Lyndale. Reeta joined
the team in Dec. 1980.
When it came time for Robert and Katherine to retire,
their son Russell, who had been working at "the
shop" since grade school, bought the business in 1983.
Then, in 1998, Russell and Reeta formed the current
partnership. Presently, Katherine, Russell's brother Greg,
and Russell and Reeta's boys Robert and Matthew all help out
at the shop. Plainly, this is a true family business.
While many businesses have come and gone the last 60+
years, Woodlake Cleaning Center has thrived. We have
survived the polyester craze of the 60s and 70s, a forced
relocation in 1978 due to Richfield's redevelopment, the
advent of discount chain stores in the 80s, and the recent
casual dress style. We believe we are successful because of
our commitment to quality and our personalized service.
Please come by and see for yourself.
